AFS Aviation Fuel Services GmbH had its origins in 1986 as a subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and VEBA OEL AG – with 14 staff members and 6 aircraft refuelling vehicles.
The first aircraft refuelling unit was opened at Munich-Riem Airport. A year later an aircraft refuelling unit was launched in Hamburg.
Establishment of AFS Aviation Fuel Services GmbH as a 50% subsidiary of Lufthansa Commercial Holding GmbH and Veba Oel AG in Hamburg,
Foundation of the first operating unit at Munich-Riem Airport
Establishment of the aircraft refuelling service at Hamburg International Airport
AFS enter into a joint venture with Caltex: this ushers in the hour of birth of FFS in Frankfurt
Opening of the new airport tank storage facility as well as of DFS at Düsseldorf Airport
AFS takes over the former Minol operations in Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin-Schönefeld

In July 2020 AFS opened its operation at Oslo-Gardermon airport. In October 2020, the AFS Berlin branch is transferred to the new BER Airport and the Berlin Tegel operation closed.
