AFS from the very beginning
Milestones in a successful corporate history
AFS Aviation Fuel Services GmbH was founded in 1986 as a subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and VEBA OEL AG – with 14 employees and 6 aircraft refuelling vehicles. The first refuelling facility was opened at Munich-Riem Airport. The following year, the refuelling service in Hamburg was added.
The foundation of AFS Aviation Fuel Services GmbH as a 50% subsidiary of Lufthansa Commercial Holding GmbH and Veba Oel AG in Hamburg; establishment of the first facility at Munich-Riem Airport.
Establishment of the refuelling service at Hamburg Airport.
AFS enters into a joint venture with Caltex: this marks the birth of FFS in Frankfurt.
Opening of the new airport fuel depot and the DFS at Düsseldorf Airport.
AFS takes over the former Minol operations in Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin-Schönefeld.
Planning of new operations in Hanover, Stuttgart and Cologne; commencement of operations management in Erfurt.
Takeover of the former fueling companies in Hanover, Cologne and Stuttgart.
Opening of a DEA facility at the former US military base in Hahn, Hunsrück.
Establishment of the IT subsidiary GlobeFuel Systems & Services GmbH, completion of the airport fuel depot in Nuremberg and assumption of operational management.
Merger of the Stuttgart refuelling and storage operations.
Takeover of the operational management of the Into-Plane service at Nuremberg Airport and of the Flughafen-Schwechat Hydrantengesellschaft in Vienna.
Establishment of AFS A GmbH to consolidate future activities in Austria. Establishment of Salzburg Fuelling GmbH and takeover of the operational management of the Into-Plane service/airport fuel depot on behalf of the shareholders BP, OMV and SHELL.
Opening of the AFS Berlin facility at Schönefeld Airport.
Swissport International, the world’s largest ground handling and cargo company, acquires BP’s shares in AFS.
Opening of the Berlin Tegel facility.
Commencement of operations at Linz Airport on behalf of OMV
